We believe your environment has the power to not only speak for you, but to also speak to you. Our approach to design is one that celebrates the unique authenticity of each client and space we have the honor to work with.

ABOUT THE STUDIO

I’m Heidi Houdek, founder and owner of Modern Hippie Design Studio. It feels so good to be able to say that now, but it took a long road to get here, one with many twists and turns along the way.

I have always had a heart for design. When I was a little girl I would create these crazy visions in my head and would try to bring them to life. Whether it was an outfit for the first day of school, my bedroom design (of course lots of teal and shiny black since it was the 90’s), or a halloween costume; I would obsess over it until I got it JUST RIGHT.

So how did I end up spending the first years of my adulthood in a career in finance instead of design?

By letting life convince me that it was more important to be what the world said I should be than to follow my own inner callings and dreams. I spent years building a “successful career” until I realized that alcohol was helping me remain numb to the fact that crunching numbers and being in spreadsheets all day was literally crushing my soul.

Making the choice to become sober has allowed me to trust my internal voice and get back to my creative self. I’ve realized that my ability to create beauty is a gift. A gift that I am honored to be able to share. A gift that lets me bring joy to others through the work I do every day for my clients.

CECI TUCKER

Hi, my name is Ceci Tucker and I’m an interior designer here at Modern Hippie Design Studio. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas and graduated with a degree in Apparel Merchandising & Design from Colorado State University.

You could say that I have always shown an interest in interiors, as I remember feverishly watching TLC’s “Trading Spaces”, as a child, and insisting my mom buy me a design smock so I could play the part of the contestants & designers.

While you will no longer find me in my Trading Spaces Design Smock, I do still love the process of creating functional, yet cozy spaces for people to enjoy. Outside of work, you can find me spending time with my husband and dog outdoors, traveling in our camper van, and reading endless amounts of fantasy novels.
